Grace has been working for the past eight hours at the restaurant already. She took the morning shift and was suppose to leave about an hour ago, but one of her servers had called in sick so it looked like she was going to be working a double. Grace already knew she was going to be exhausted by the end of the night, but for now, she was still energized and happy. She drops off one of the orders she had just taken, smiling at the customers and answering their questions before moving on to the next. This person had just arrived.
She placed a napkin and a glass of water down on the table before pulling out her notepad.
Grace Hunter: What can I get you?
She looks up and flashes a bright, dazzling smile at the customer. It takes a minute but she recognizes them from somewhere.

"Hey Grace!"
Chris said as he looked up from his menu and then to Ashley who was there with him, their children with a sitter for the night.
"Good to see you, I'll have a Mtn Dew please...and a root beer for the lady."
He smiled looking back at his wife, knowing what she wanted

Grace Hunter: While I get your drinks have a look at our menu...
She handed them the menus
Grace Hunter: If you are in the mood for some Australian cuisine, might I recommend the pumpkin crust pizza with smoked mozzarella and basil. Or the Justine's brick pressed barbecued chicken. The BBQ burger kebabs are a big seller.
She paused
Grace Hunter: Or we also have a few more traditionally American specials listed on the menu as well.

Ashley looks over the menu.
“How about the breakfast items?”
Chris looks at her funny. She shrugs.
“What? I'm more in the mood for breakfast than dinner. These macadamia and buttermilk pancakes with caramelized bananas sound delicious.”

Grace Hunter: I can certainly ask our chef about that. What about you, Chris? Do you know what you'd like or do you need a minute to look over the menu?

"That brick pressed Barbecue Chicken sounds amazing, I'd love to try it."
He said with a smile as he handed Grace his menu.
"If it's as good as you say I may have to try the other items too."

Grace smiles at him, hoping that he would like it because the more he ordered the more money they made and the better the restaurant's reputation would be.
Grace Hunter: It has been highly rated among our customers so I'm sure that you will enjoy it.
She takes the menus back from them.
Grace Hunter: I'll put in your orders and go get your drinks.
Grace walks off to do just that leaving the two to talk.

Chris turns to Ashley.
"It's good to see so many people we know around here, I haven't spoke to David in a few weeks so it took me by surprise that Grace was working here."
He smiled and took her hand.
"So do we go get the kids after we eat? Or is there anything else we need to get done before they come home?"

“I guess it depends on how long we are here.”
She thinks about it.
“I don't really want to take advantage of Jamie and Cassandra's kindness. I mean, I'm sure they have everything under control, but that is still a lot of kids for them to be looking after at once.”

"Yeah you're right. I don't want to overburden them either but I really want some you and me time....I think at least one night a week you and I should try and have a night to ourselves. I know that is a lot to ask for a babysitter but I want to keep our marraige strong."

“Our marriage is always going to be strong Chris...”
Ashley takes his hand to reassure him.
“We don't have to do fancy dinners or outings for our marriage to be strong. I'm not some high maintenance or insecure girl. As long as you continue to come home safely to us and as long as we keep our communication strong...our marriage will be fine. We make time for each other daily, and that's what matters.”

He nodded as their drinks arrived.
"yeah you are right on that, we have a good thing going. I just like having you to myself some days."
He laughed.
"But we do make time for each other every day and we show our kids what a good marriage looks like so I think we're doing better then we thought possible."

“We can always schedule days to ourselves, but it doesn't have to be a set time every single week. That kind of predictability can cause the magic to go out of our marriage just as much as if we didn't spend time together at all. Look at tonight...”
She pauses
“It's unexpected and exciting. We get to try out the new restraunt we have been hearing about. We ran into someone we knew that we hadn't expected – Grace. And we can do anything you want to do after dinner. It's a good night.”

Grace had sent their drinks ahead with one of the other girls, but now she was bringing their food to them. She placed Chris' Barbecue chicken in front of him on the table before giving Ashley her pancakes.
Grace Hunter: Here you go guys...I had to make a special request on the pancakes but you guys are worth it.
She winks at them.
Grace Hunter: So is there anything else I can get you?

Chris smiles and looks at his food, it looked so delicious and his mouth began to water.
"No I think that's it for now, thank you Grace."
He said as she left the table giving him time to answer Ashley.
"Yeah you are right, no set time every week, I don't want it feel repetitive or routine or even forced. But I think we will be able to make time at different times of the week whenever we get the time. Changing it up every time will make it mean more like you said."

Moments later, David walks into the restaurant dressed in a button down shirt and blue jeans with a single red rose that he walks up to Grace and hands to her, giving her a kiss on the cheek. Grace and him talk a bit and he points out Chris and Ashley at the table, David smirks.
"So how about you take a break and we have us a little double date?"
David asks Grace as Chris motions for them to come over.

Grace Hunter: If you can make about 75 hungry patrons suddenly disappear, sure I can take a break.
Grace shakes her head.
Grace Hunter: Crystal isn't here and we are a girl short, so I'm helping out. But why don't you go and catch up with them. I'll stop by occasional when I have a free moment.
She gives him a quick kiss before walking past him to put the flowers he'd gotten her in some water and deliver the next food order.

He nods and slides into the booth beside of Chris.
"Hey buddy! What you guys doing? You like my girl's place?"

Ashley looks surprised.
“Your girl's place? I thought she was only working here. Isn't Crystal Light the owner?”

"She's part owner"
He said proudly, admiring her go getter spirit.
"And she's doing a great job I might add. So what brings you two into this neck of the woods?"
